Shahid Afridi hopes Pakistan beat India to win World Twenty20 title

Pakistan's Twenty20 captain Shahid Afridi has expressed that a challenging draw would motivate his side to lift the coveted World Twenty20 title for the second time and in the process break the hoodoo against arch-rival India.

Pakistan, the 2009 champions, have been placed along with hosts India, Australia, New Zealand and a yet to be decided qualifier in Group 2 of the Super Ten round of the pinnacle event, which starts from March 8.

Pakistan have never beaten India in either a traditional one-day World Cup or the newer World Twenty20. India were crowned the T20 champions of the inaugural edition after defeating Pakistan in 2007.

Afridi admitted they have a tough draw but added that he was hopeful that the challenge would pump-up his team to win the title and beat India on the way, Sport24 reported.

The flamboyant all-rounder insisted that he didn't want to live in history and called on his side to overcome mistakes they make while playing against India in big events.

No India-Pakistan Cricket Series in December: Sources

NEW DELHI:  A proposed cricket series between India and Pakistan in December will not be held, sources in the Indian cricket board have said. The decision comes just a day after activists of the Shiv Sena tried to stop talks between Board chief Shashank Manohar and his Pakistani counterpart Shahryar Khan in Mumbai.

Here are the latest developments:

1. Sources in the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) say that Pakistan has expressed concern about travelling to India for the World T20 Championship to be held in March next year.
2. Yesterday, Sena activists barged into the BCCI office in Mumbai and threatened to prevent Pakistani umpire Aleem Dar from officiating in the fifth One-Day International (ODI) match between India and South Africa on Sunday.
3. Mr Dar was later withdrawn from officiating in the remaining two matches of the ongoing series.


4. Soon after, former Pakistani cricketers Wasim Akram and Shoaib Akhtar, too, decided against commentating in the fifth one-day match, which will take place in Mumbai. They have decided to return to Pakistan on Friday, a day after commentating in the fourth ODI in Chennai.
5. Earlier on Monday morning, Shiv Sena activists broke into the office of the BCCI, just before the chiefs of the Indian and Pakistani cricket boards were to discuss the potential bilateral series between the two nations.
6. Waving placards of "Shahryar Khan, Go Back", Sena activists crashed through the gates of the BBCI office in Mumbai's Wankhede Stadium. They entered BCCI chief Shashank Manohar's cabin and crowded around his desk, shouting slogans and warning him against meeting Shahryar Khan. At least 10 protesters were arrested, but were granted bail within hours.
7. Sources said Mr Manohar drove to the Trident hotel, where Shahryar Khan is staying, and spoke to him. There will be no official meeting between the two cricket board chiefs until after October 25 - when the last ODI is played - say sources.
8. The Indian and Pakistani cricket boards had signed a pact for six bilateral series between 2015 and 2023.


9. The Shiv Sena, which rules Maharashtra in alliance with the BJP, says it will not allow any engagement with Pakistan as long as the country is involved in acts of terror.
10. Leaders of the BJP disagreed publicly. "Mumbai should host an India-Pakistan match and if Pakistan cricketers come, the government should protect them," said state BJP chief Raosaheb Danve.
